Born and raised here on Oahu. I did my student teaching in Oregon with 7th grade and 5th grade which was both challenging (as I worked to also complete my history thesis) and one of the most insightful experiences as I saw my career in education begin. After taking a break following graduation, I decided to move abroad and utilize my teaching skills. I taught kindergarten, preschool, and English classes for all ages of students for two years at an English immersion school right in the heart of Tokyo. During one of my trips home, I met my now husband and moved back to Hawaii.
Since then, I spent three years as a 4th grade educational assistant at Daniel K. Inouye Elementary and was grateful to have the opportunity to transition into teaching here. This year will be the start of my third year as a full time teacher within the DOE, and I am excited to tackle the challenges that this year has in store! This summer I spent my time at the beach and hiking while also preparing for the school year by moving much of our curriculum onto a digital format. It has been quite the journey to get to where I am, and I couldn't have asked for a better school to start my professional career in Hawaii. |
